Jane Austen Books

While watching Jane Austen as movies is not substitute for reading the novels, there are some wonderful opportunities to do just that. For people who love Jane Austen novels, there are complete sets, such as the one produced by the BBC. This six disc set features Sense and Sensibility, Emma, Persuasion, Northanger Abbey, Mansfield Park, and Pride and Prejudice. It is a very complete entertainment package for those people who are very enamored of Austen`s work, and who savor the well crafted BBC films. There are other options available as well.

Here in the United States, the A&E channel produced a mini series based on Pride and Prejudice. This mini series has been remastered and re-released with behind the scenes footage. Emma Thompson won an Oscar for her performance in Sense and Sensibility, which she adapted from the novel. Mansfield Park, Persuasion, and Northanger Abbey are other Jane Austen books that have been made into movies. The Academy award winning Emma should not be forgotten, either.

Jane Austen wrote in the eighteenth and nineteenth century, but her novels are timeless.
An avid reader might enjoy the gift of a complete collection of Jane Austen novels. Amazon.com features one with a beautiful front cover, but it is sometimes out of stock. Random House, Inc. could be a better source, and will help locate the book for you locally. Hard cover books are lovely, lasting gifts. Now you can use eBook reading devices to read Jane Austin classics anywhere you go.

These well loved novels did not just come out of nowhere. Jane was a writer, even when very young. Three notebooks of writings that Jane began around age twelve are titled Juvenilia. Sense and Sensibility, Emma, Mansfield Park and Pride and Prejudice were published while she was still living. Northanger Park and Persuasion were published posthumously, and some unfinished novels were also left.
